Having dry skin is actually a condition that is not rare at all. There are many factors that can cause dryness, such as cold weather, bathing excessively with harsh soaps, using cosmetic products that are not good for our skin, too much sun or wind exposure, or medical conditions such as dermatitis. The main symptoms of dry skin are that the skin feels rough and tight, because there is a low level of sebum and the skin is not able to retain moisture. There are many home made remedies that help relieve dry skin and we will look into a couple of them
One of the things that you can do is to apply essential oils on your skin. Some of the oils that you can use are rose hip oil, lavender oil, chamomile, and Sandalwood oil. For example, rose hip oil is very rich in vitamin A and vitamin C, and both are very good for the skin. It is also used to heal scarring and lessen the appearance of photo aging.
The fundamental principle of fighting dry skin is to drink plenty of water. If not, what you apply on your skin is irrelevant because you will never get long lasting results. Another tip is to take a bath and add to the water one cup of baking soda and if you want to even make it better, you can do the following: mix 1 cup of oatmeal, 1 cup of warm water, 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, and 1/2 cup baking soda in a mixer. You will get a soft paste. Let this mix run with the water as you are filling your tub to take a bath. You will experience the softness after it.
Other Options to Fight Dry Skin
Making a cucumber paste also helps. You have to leave the mix on for 10 minutes after you apply it and before you rinse it off. If you do this a couple of times a week, you will see results very quickly. Another tip is to mix 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise with a spoon of baby oil and apply it on your skin or apply a thick layer of Vaseline. In both procedures you have to leave the mixtures on your skin for 20 minutes and then rinse off with warm water.
If you feel that your skin is not as dry as to have to follow these home made treatments, here are some tips for you: drink plenty of water, like we mentioned before, avoid very hot water when you shower because it dries your skin, when you will be exposed to the sun, make sure you use a good sun block to protect your skin. Also, use a moisturizing lotion or a dry skin balm daily.
